Day 023

 Dear dreamer,

Courage

Some days, my life is not just about work. Occasionally, I will be sharing some of the important lessons I have learnt and still learning from life experience- mine plus others. Before we get to that, let's talk about all the work. Work was going on quite slowly, nothing interesting as far my opinions were concerned. Some days are just going to be a roller-coaster of the same activities for a couple of days. It would be also worthy of note to mention that my old projects that I was trying to bring back were not quite it. I had no feeling for them like I used to have so I knew I would have to generate new projects that spark my interest but I have to keep reminding myself that it's not about being able to come up with different projects but producing pennies so I don't get caught up in creative work- can be addicting especially when I keep getting it right.

One of the greatest virtue that you need to be an outlier is courage. If you will be a winner, it's the same thing as being an outlier. How many winners or success cases do you see around you? Exactly- few exceptions. To be one of them, you need courage, a great deal in fact. You need to be able to face fear and still go ahead. You need to be a courageous dissenter even when in minority like Thomas Hoenig. How courageous can you be in the face of uncertainty?

Courage is not something that happens because you are a sadist or you don't feel. It is not the absence of fear either, it is knowing you are scared and still going ahead with what you want to do. It is knowing the right path and following through  with it when majority are defying it. Courage is knowing that the situation is uncertain and not running or hiding from making a choice. It is making a choice in stormy waters and throwing caution to the wind. It is something my friend calls- reckless abandon. The world consists of diverse places, situations, people. In navigating diversity, you will need courage.

Without courage, you'll never stand up to do what's good for you. One of my favourite sayings is; Do it afraid. If you will do anything worthwhile and daunting, it's going to be scary and you have to do it while you are scared. You do it knowing you might be wrong and make mistakes but still proceed.

The most important thing to remember is that you build courage by doing, not magic. You have this one chance, don't screw it up. No pennies by the way, I'm feeling hopeless but the journey has been fun.
